Happy Halloween Secret Squad!
If you’re like me, today is one of your very favorite days of the year! I just love celebrating with my family during the entire holiday season, and it’s always so much fun to create a little Halloween magic…not to mention taking a minute to indulge my sweet tooth!
When Jay and Jordan were little, I would get so excited to decorate the yard, plan and put together the boys’ costumes and help them dress up as their current favorite character or superhero. Of course, I dressed up every year too just to hand out the candy! My famous rule, for every child who came to our door to trick-or-treat, was always that they could have as much candy as they could grab in one hand!
I remember one year when Jordan was only two years old, he wanted to stay home and hand out candy with me. He was so sweet, all dressed up as a monster. When the doorbell rang, Jordan came running around the corner to the full glass front door…but as soon as he saw his reflection in the door, he screamed and ran back to me, yelling “I scared myself!! I scared myself!!!” We still smile and remind him of that story!
To this day, I still love planning Phillip’s and my costumes and getting the details of our look just right. We’ve come up with some fantastic costume ideas each October, and this year is no exception! Some of my favorite get-ups of years past were the time we dressed exactly like Avery and London, complete with identical school uniforms! (As they say, “Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery!” or really, LOVE!) And last year, when we let THEM choose our costumes for us! We made a pretty cute cat and dog if you ask me! From sock monkeys to Kid Rock, to Rubber Ducky and the Good Witch, we just love to find creative ways to serve up clever costume tricks.

Since becoming grandparents, the best part of any holiday for us is seeing it through our grandchildren’s eyes! Every year we literally count down the days until it’s time to take Avery and London out trick-or-treating with Jay and Erica.
Of course, it’s not just about the kids tonight, you can (and should) absolutely treat yourself! Apply your favorite sugar scrub or draw yourself a warm bubble bath to rest your bones after a night of Hallows’ Eve fun.
I hope you have a faBOOlously spooktacular Halloween!
